Staying at Mai Chau Ecolodge in Vietnam

Posted date: 8/30/2017 2:16:57 PM

Mai Chau Ecolodge is a must-visit accommodation during a holiday in Vietnam. This hotel is a magnificent eco-tourism project, built entirely from natural materials. Also the Mai Chau area where it’s located is one of the most unique and nature friendly places in Vietnam.

Coming here for few days is like escaping the reality to find yourself in a relaxation bubble. You’ll be immersing yourself in nature, peace and local culture at it’s best.

Hotel

I’m saying this without any doubt – Mai Chau Ecolodge is the most special place in Vietnam. It strongly embrace the beauty of nature, warmth of people and responsible travel experience. It’s surrounded by unbelievably beautiful mountain valley and rice paddies. The view is breathtaking from any point of the hotel area.
Mai Chau Ecolodge consists of 21 charming bungalows styled as an ancient local village. They have beautifully complimented the ethnic style with luxury elements. It allows guests to experience the local culture and feel comfortable all at once.

Being here feels like you are in an idyllic movie. The daily rush slows down at Mai Chau Ecolodge, making you breathe in its fresh mountain air and live by rules of nature. It’s just you strolling on your bicycle through rice paddies surrounded by majestic green mountains.

Hotel’s uniqueness divulges by 4 important aspects – closeness to nature, environment protection, cultural development and responsible tourism. You can really feel all of it to every smallest detail at every corner of the hotel. They have really thought of everything.

Location

The Mai Chau Ecolodge is located on a beautiful, green Pom Pu Hill near Mai Chau town. It’s about a 3-hour drive away from Hanoi.

There are two ways how to get here. One option is to take a public bus from Hanoi. It will depart from My Dinh Bus station 4 times a day and will cost approximately $4. Once you get to Mai Chau city, you can take a motorbike taxi to the Ecolodge about 10 minutes away. It will cost around $1. Total time spent will be up to 5 hours.

Other, more convenient option that we chose is a direct transfer from Hanoi, organised by the Ecolodge. Return transfer costs only $25 and will get you right from your hotel in Hanoi to the your nature escape in Mai Chau Ecolodge

Bungalows

There are 5 different types of bungalows here. We had a pleasure to stay at the Deluxe. With it’s thatched roofs, bamboo interiors, amazing wooden bathtub and outdoor jungle shower, it’s all a person needs for a mental cleanse after all the city hustle.
The amazing terrace looking over the rice paddies and green mountain ranges is the best place to sit and relax after a day of more relaxing.

What makes this place even more amazing to me is the fact that they use solar energy and hot water supply for the bungalows and the rest of property. The water comes from natural drilled caves nearby and they even have a waste water treatment system that filters it and releases it to rice paddies and trees to grow.

Just think how amazing and healthy our planet would be, if everyone would treat it just like Mai Chau Ecolodge does.

ACTIVITIES

There’s no television and many entertainment facilities so you can really feel close to the nature. We much rather choose to take a bicycle to stroll around the beautiful rice paddies and close by local villages.

Only 5 minutes bicycle ride away are nearby villages and the Mai Chau town, where you’ll find fresh fruit market, small local shops and few magnificent cultural objects. Most active travelers can enjoy some hiking and exploring of  mountain caves.

Those who’d like to relax from the dynamic daily life can enjoy a great SPA right at the Ecolodge. All guests can enjoy a beautiful pool, have a magnificent fresh meal made entirely of the local organic products or a refreshing drink at the panoramic view bar.

The cherry on the cake is being entertained by a local dance performance every night. It’s an amazing experience to see how locals portray their traditions and daily tasks in dance.

The reality and stress disappear here, so you don’t ever feel the need for anything more.
If needed, you are not disconnected from the outside world because the Wi-Fi here is perfect. The best connection we’ve had in Vietnam. I would have never expected that from a mountain valley sanctuary. Amazing!

Staff & service

Everyone from the Ecolodge staff seems the most positive and warm people you’ll ever meet in Vietnam. Ladies in reception are very attentive to every need and make sure that every guest feels welcome. We received the best possible service in any situation.
You will not meet a single person here without a friendly smile on their faces.

Food

Mai Chau Ecolodge offers a great delicious breakfast buffet, a lovely lunch and dinner at the restaurant overlooking mountains. All dishes are organic and rich of taste. They only use locally grown products to prepare authentic Vietnamese and Thai tribal food.
Also the mix of Asian and European type of menu will allow everyone to find something for their taste. Just imagine what a vitamin dose you will get by eating food that’s been grown only few steps away.
